Degang WU

(2011 Paul and May Chu UG Research Award)

Degang is a third-year Physics student coming from Guangzhou. After he entered HKUST, he worked with Prof. Kwok Yip Szeto on genetic algorithms and evolutionary games on networks. In the past year, he studied parallel versions of genetic algorithms, and found configurations of the evolving sub-populations that yield good results. These algorithms are useful in solving many real-world problems ranging from cryptography to forecasting and finance. He has published several conference papers and has a journal paper under review. In the coming year, he will take Physics postgraduate studies in HKUST.
