Jinfeng XIAO
(2013 Paul and May Chu UG Research Award Honorable Mention)
Influenced by his father who is a laser researcher, Jinfeng developed an interest in Physics back in his high school days in Beijing, and already received prizes from physics competitions. With a goal to do research in biophysics, he joined Prof. Penger Tong's research group. He was honored for his work in applying molecular dynamics methods to explore how potential energies are distributed on undulating surfaces. This work is the starting point of a series of studies, and will be useful in the study of more complex systems, including surfaces of biological membranes such as cell walls. After this honor, Jinfeng is interested in continuing the research next semester. In the future, he plans to apply for graduate studies in biophysics.
