Shuyuan WANG

(2010 Paul and May Chu UG Research Award)

Shuyuan is a second-year Physics and Mathematics student who was born in Anhui and raised in Guangzhou. He joined Prof. Shengwang Du's Atom and Quantum Optics Lab in April 2009. As an undergraduate student, Shuyuan has shown a strong interest and motivation for research in fundamental physics. Working together with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, he has been deeply involved in theoretical and experimental studies of single-photon and two-photon optical coherent transients in two-level and three-level cold-atom systems. He made important contributions to the unification of free-induction decay (FID) and optical precursors -- the work that led to this award -- as well as to the first direct observation of two-photon FID in a three-level Lambda system. He is a coauthor of two refereed journal publications.
